7th Day of New Years
December 26
On the 7th Day of New Years, the House sent to me
Seven Healing Ways

Welcome Friends!

It's been a great holiday so far! Now that Christmas is behind us, it's time to focus on the New Year and making 2011 a great year! When creating change in your life, sometimes it's best to start at the root. YOU!

Greetings From Amy Rezek
Young Adult Mentor, Mother and Business Professional

Healing is journey that many of us find ourselves on in the course of our lifetime. Each of us find different ways to heal and grow and change. One of the ways to experience this is through Music. Music is a universal language, just like love, and it has the ability to affect our moods, our inner selves, and can be tied to our memories as well. For me, the expression of music through the piano has been a healing tool for myself and for those around me. Music can give expression to our feelings and our emotions when we cannot find words to speak. Whether you are a musician, a singer, a dancer, or a listener finding music that “speaks” to your spirit is a powerful path to healing. This is one way to allow yourself to express emotions and feelings you may be experiencing.  Amy

7 Healing Ways

#1 - Believing in Yourself

  • Consider What you Believe about Yourself?
    a)  What have you heard others say about you that you have chosen to believe, but is not true?
    b)  People can be unkind and not know how to love or care in a healthy way at times. It’s not about you!

  • Beliefs
    a)  What you believe is powerful because it holds true for you. If you believe you can achieve your goals, you probably will. If you believe you will not, then you probably won't.
    b)  When you believe something will happen, you work towards it. When you don't believe something will happen, you probably won't.
    c)  Sometimes the beliefs we have about ourselves are not true.

#2 - Address Negative Thinking

Negative thinking can literally cripple the best of us both mentally and physically. Types of common negative thinking include:

  • Worry- Thinking the worst will happen
    (Affirmation: All is well)

  • Self Criticism - Judging yourself harshly
(Affirmation: I did my best and that’s good enough for me)

  • Victim - Feeling helpless or hopeless
    (Affirmation: I am in control)

  • Perfectionist - Thinking that you are not good enough.

  • (Affirmation: I am good enough. Better than that, I am great)

#3 - Stop Negative Thinking

When a negative thought comes to mind, address it immediately and say, stop. Take negative thinking very seriously and deal with it because in most cases you have full control over stopping negative thinking.

If the negative thinking is overwhelming, change your focus by:

  • Meditating

  • Thinking about something else

  • Snapping a rubber band on your wrist

  • Reading a book

  • Working out

  • Taking a walk

#4 - Conquer Negative Thinking with Positive Thinking

When a negative thought comes to mind, say seven great things about yourself! If you have just told yourself that you are ugly, for example, say stop and then counter the thought with five positive thoughts about yourself.

#5 - Meditate

The benefits of meditation are mind altering, but best known for decreasing stress and increasing peace of mind. Visit our meditation column for free lessons and meditative videos. From what I understand, 15 minutes a day can change your life. Might be worth a shot!

Greetings From Gloria Jean
Mentor and Columnist

I hear the water and I breath in and out.
I find my place in my mind and I find peace.
A gift of meditation.
 A gift of love.

#6 - Utilize Affirmations

Affirmations are positive statements that you make about yourself at random times during the day. Placing a sticky note on your bathroom mirror, beside your bed and on your computer with a positive affirmation written on it is a great reminder.

  • I am proud of myself.

  • I am a great hockey player.

  • I am smart and will get even smarter!

  • I love my hair.

  • I am lovable and deserve love.

  • I have a cute nose.

  • I am worthy of respect.

  • I AM!

#7 - Success Log

Keeping a success log (journal) is a great way to boost self-esteem. Below are examples of what you could enter into your log. Reading the log is a wonderful way to feel better about yourself on days you want a boost.

  • Today, I kept a secret for a friend.

  • Today, I felt proud of myself.

  • Today, I held the door open for someone.

  • Today, I completed my homework.

  • Today, I felt great when my Mom praised me.

  • Today, I helped my little brother with a personal issue.

  • Today, I felt good about myself.

Quote From Beverly Raitz,

Success is a process, a quality of mind and way of being, an outgoing affirmation of life.
