Humanity Rocks! This month's theme is Mother Nature: Miracles of Life and embraces the essence of spring, life on earth, and the wild beauty of Mother Nature. Our Features address Mother Nature in her many forms and what human beings are doing to fight for her rights.
Our mentors, as always, nourish the magazine with inspiration and empowering advice and stories to help light our way. David Suzuki, world renowned environmentalist, talks about the life of a Grizzllie Bear while Roger Vokey, lawyer, discusses our existence in relation to a human plant. On the lighter side of Mother Nature, Beverley Raitz, editor and writer, talks about humor and the miracle of our lives while Michael Killip, renowned chef and TV personality, delves into the gifts that Mother Nature provides us in spring. Matt Tod, youth leader, discusses planting seeds of leadership, Amy Leask, philosopher, brings light to Einstein's advise to stop and smell the flowers, and Gloria Jean, America’s coffee queen, tells her story of the birth of Gloria Jean coffee. Other mentorship columns include: Pure Success, Young Adults Mentoring Young Adults, Bullying, Chill, Young Adult’s Success Stories, and a powerful article provided by Dr. Dax Urbszat, professor at the University of Toronto on youth, crime and mental health. One of the reasons that I chose Mother Nature as the theme for May is because I believe it’s important that we embrace what's being done for her rather than only drowning in the overexposure to horrible stories about us destroying her or her destroying us. I believe that if we get lost in the negative drama that we are being blasted with, it could lesson our drive and desire for positive change. Unfortunately, many of the young adults that I work with suffer from anxiety caused by fear of their futures. They believe there is no hope so are not involved in active change. Of course there is hope! Humans are evolving and we are becoming better friends with Mother Nature. The Internet and power of young adults is changing the course that humankind was once on. Powerful leaders are conveying the needs and messages of young adults to global forces and powers that be. Each of us is considering our future and Mother Nature each time we recycle or avoid pouring chemicals into our water systems.
I say it’s time to celebrate that we've made Mother Nature a priority and look forward to future advancements and growth rather than overburden our energies in the negative. As I said in last month’s editorial, humanity does seem to rise above naturally in times of crisis. Global awareness has been solidified, we are fighting for Mother Nature’s rights, slowly making advancements, and individually thinking of and caring for her in our daily routines. Good job humanity! You rock! Let’s keep up the good work and continue our part in befriending Mother Nature and empowering our planet. I hope you enjoy May’s issue of Empowerment House and our Team of Empowerment writers. Take care of you and until next month, Lisa To get updates, be part of our community, join contests, and more, please subscribe to the magazine (free) or follow us on Twitter/Facebook (links are in top banner).
